Last fall I had some d-bag spin doughnuts in my bean field a week before harvest. The cops got called by a neighbor to the field. Charges were filed and the guy ended up getting a 6 month probation term and $950 in restitution back to me.
If it were me I wouldn’t have let the car go or a wrecker in there until I was whole from him being an idiot.
I try to no-till as much as possible and to be honest the biggest hurdle isn’t resistant weeds or low yields it’s people making rust and being stupid screwing up the seed bed.
I don't disagree with you, but how do you assign a cost to that damage. On the beans you had actual crop damage and loss, though $950 doesn't sound like enough. Vehicle damage to an unplanted field is hard to quantify and to anyone who doesn't farm, they don't associate it with any financial impact at all. A judge or prosecutor would consider it a waste of their time and consider the farmer to be creating a nuisance and waste of their time. |
