First off no. Wal-mart employees make up a small percentage of people benefiting from the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare is an ignorant racist term used by small minded people on both sides of the aisle). Retail and service sector employees do make up a substantial percentage of people benefiting from the act so you're understanding is not too far off just skewed by where you get your info from.
Don't get me wrong I'm not defending Wal-Mart and don't usually shop at them unless on an out of town road trip and need last minute supplies I am just tired of all the misinformation surrounding them and the local business myth. Show me a local business that'll pay tuition, has a 401K match, provides 10 weeks paid maternal and 6 weeks paid parental leave, flexible scheduling, etc. they're few and far between.
FMLA is federally mandated. Doubt Walmart would do it otherwise.
If like most companies, they only match up to a small percent, and 401K match on a minimum wage job doesn't cost the company much, and doesn't add up to much for the employee.
