North Central Illinois | First of all I haven't heard any end users complaining yet. Second, I would be surprised if they have not been covering needs lately in case this thing really runs off the tracks. I'm sure some will get burned but that is business. It's all about risk management and I don't fault an end user for not loading up on a product they need when it is cheap. It seems like a no brainer to us that they should buy all they could in times like that. Even when prices are cheap they aren't going to tie up capital to lock in long term needs until they see a reason for that cost to increase significantly. Again it comes back to risk management and it applies to farmers as well. When we decide whether to forward price or not we have to look at several factors and decide if that is a good move. Risk management is an essential part of long term marketing success. | |
