I doubt it will freeze up but it can and will cause moisture damage. All the moisture will not escape out the vent. It will fall down and soak your insulation and sheetrock. You wont know it til its to late. Are you good at matching texture? Knockdown can be a b____. Your very right about needing a roof though. Ada quite venting is just as important as insulation.
