Columbus,MI | We used a ground drive digger for a few years, I hated it. If the depth man got lazy and you got a thick slug of ground the weigh would bind the drive gears and the shaker chain would stop and the drive wheels would skid and the spikes would dig a trench. Would have to dig out the chain bed with shovels. So we always ran it over the beds two or three times to get it all. I have seen diggers of that vintage that have a set of fingers at the end of the chain bed to further separate, there are also few older designs that have a second chain bed at a slightly steeper angle to do a final cleaning as well. Could had an air system to blow the dirt off and have a bin underneath to catch. Be safe with that thing.
