Southeast Minnesota | I just installed Ubuntu on our laptop. Had a fairly fresh install of Xp Home on there. Then installed Ubuntu as a dual boot. One thing - I had problems until I did a disk check and let window fix errors on hard drive. This had to be done before the Ubuntu install. Then the Ubuntu partitioner had the proper options. Use the GRUB bootloader and there is a program called startup manager. You can set up which operating system to be the default boot. (XP in my case due to wife using it). Another program to check out before installing is LinuxMint. It is based off of Ubuntu but comes with many of the drivers installed so you don't have to do a lot of monkey work (unless you like to do that stuff). On my desktop I use VMWare Player (free for personal) to check out these programs and then did a live CD to try them to a further extent. Have fun. | |
