central mo | there's several available. I've only used VMware. I think it's a free trial for 30 days or something. I'm not 100 percent sure but there's gotta be a freeware VM software out there.
If you decided to go with a dual boot system you should ALWAYS prepare for losing all data on the existing drive. I've setup several Dual Boot system exactly like what your speaking of. They can be a real pain in the a$$.
I've found that you should always install Windows first. Then come in with Ubuntu. Its a real jerker when you install Ubuntu then install Windows and then, upon rebooting the first time, realize that booting to ubuntu isnt even an option. Grrr
