Commercial crabgrass preventers (liquid & dry) almost always have the active ingredient pendimethalin which is Prowl. Prowl is not labelled for lawns but I have heard that 3 pints per acre of generic Prowl applied in early May before a rain does a good job of preventing crabgrass if your sprayer boom accidentally shuts off too late and covers your lawn......
