I have always been told that it takes consistent at least 55 degree soil temps for crabgrass to germinate. Prowl only lasts so long so I put off spraying until it warms up good so it don't lose effectiveness before crabgrass season is over.
We've seen it emerge at 50 degrees. By that time, we are full throttle on planting corn. Mesotrione helps after planting for us.
edit: Home brewed Lexar is nice too, but keep it away from anything other than grass. We do use Acetochlor in place of the Metolachor in our home brewed Lexar.
