Curious why no-till doesn't work. Just because it doesn't yield the most doesn't mean it doesn't work. My mentor told me the highest yield doesn't always translate to highest profit.
Not sure on the OP but me being 3 miles from Lake Michigan and a prevailing east wind with cold air off the lake (ice berg) we need solar heating of the soil to get corn up. Black soil is the only way to make it work. We can be 10 to 15 degrees cooler than the other side of the county (Green bay side). I have seen no-till disasters by us enough to prove it doesn't work for corn/beans in the spring. Fall no-till wheat into bean stubble works but there is more daylight and the lake surface temp is warmer so the cooling effect is not as great with east wind. |
