NW TN, Dyersburg | Like most have said, I'd avoid using wood below ground. I bought a piece of property a few years ago with a 30 year old Morton bldg on it. Most of the posts had rotted at ground level. If the original owner had requested, Morton would have fixed the problem but he had passed away. I bought from his daughter & it was my problem. The fix was to cut the posts off above the rot, remove rotted part, expand hole to about 18"-24" dia., bolt steel bracket onto pole that extends into hole about 18" then fill with concrete. It was a pain in the rear. So 2 years ago I had a bldg put up & didn't hesitate to use perma-columns. I might add, Morton did repair several bldgs in this area for the same problem. | |
