Subject: RE: Dumping hot from dryer into bin

Northwest Illinois
Before having enough bins, we used to dump hot corn into a 48’ bin and haul out of it all fall. There is a fine line between storing hot corn and hauling it out as far as moisture goes. I felt like 115 degree corn coming out of dryer was usually 16-17%, but by the time it was cooled it would be 14-15%. We used to get the temp to 120 degrees if we hauling straight out of dryer shooting for a 15% at the elevator. Some elevators won’t take hot corn, but we never got rejected because of being too hot. Once we were done hauling we’d run dryer to 115 degrees to hopefully have 15% corn in the bin. I understand a lot variables can change numbers. I also don’t dump hot corn anymore
