I agree with Kate. I have always been uncomfortable with and opposed to the things published which paint farmers as doing what they do, and tolerating hardship for the good of all the consumers in the world. I call BS. In my view, there are two,... maybe three... main reasons we are what we are.... 1. like everybody else on this earth, we need to generate a living for ourselves and our families. 2. we love our occupation on the whole,..even if at times we definitely hate segments of it. " A farmer is what I am, ........not just what I do " 3. MAYBE in many cases, it's all we know. I have yet to see anybody choose to raise a commodity year after year " because consumers desperately need this product, so I will produce it , even though it is guaranteed I will do it at personal financial loss..."
