scmn
Our 3 yr old daughter was diagnosed with SVT at 21 days of age while in the NICU (the day before she was to be discharged to go home). The only way they caught it was the monitors showed her heart rate had jumped to 300bpm (have been 140-150 bpm). They tried several maneuvers to bring her out of it and ended up getting a shot of adenosine to slow her heart rate. It was a scary moment as new parents because she looked normal during the episode. Her cardiologist placed her on a beta-blocker and slowly weaned her off of it at a year of age. She has had several Holter monitors (EKG is too short of a snap shot and Holter is on for 48 hours) and has not had another episode in the last 3 years. The cardiologist indicated she would be at risk for a repeat episode during growth spurts throughout her life but did not feel that cardiac ablation would be needed at this time; they said some people out grow it and others will do not and if she does not out grow it they would do cardiac ablation.
