Southeast Colorado
Thanks for the advice folks. We got him in and used the PVC splint. He's been crippled for a few days so I'm hoping we didn't wait too long. I see no cuts or obvious signs of trauma. His leg was swollen up quite a bit and that joint is really stiff. I used the pipe but didn't put any soft material inside because with it in there I could not get the joint to straighten out with any of the soft material inside the pipe. After one day of walking on it he looks better because he at least is walking on the bottom of his hoof. Before he walked, or maybe hobbled is a better word, on the front of the hoof. (This is a rear leg by the way) I don't feel real great about his chances because I should have gotten him tended to a couple of days ago. I guess we'll see what happens. He is not a new born. He is about 1 month old.
