Contrary to the others, I will say elemental is just fine, even preferred.  In the Corn Belt in warm weather, you will get half the elemental converted to sulfate in 6 wks, which is just perfect for soybeans.*  In a very wet spring and early summer, your sulfate may leach away before the beans take it up.  Not a concern where the sulfate is spoon-fed via conversion from elemental.

*This assumes very finely ground elemental that is made into a prill with plenty of pore spaces for the bacteria to get inside.  If it's not micronized in this way, it may take several yrs to get it converted to sulfate.  You can see the pore spaces with a hand lens.  Also, if you put the prills in a jar of water, and shake it up a couple times over a day or so, the prills will slake apart if it's the good stuff.
