Northwest Illinois | I feel that sulfate form (pelletized gypsum here) feeds the plant early on and elemental is more of a slow release and feeds the plant later in the season. With soybean yields being mostly determined in the month of August, elemental should be best for yield gain. However, sulfur deficient beans look like crap early on here and I spread pelletized gypsum with potash preplant. I’m thinking about spreading both pelletized gypsum and elemental and doing some yield checks this year. I find some weird data when spreading sulfur for beans. More than once, I saw no gain with Ca+S or K individually. When mixing the two, I almost always see gain and make money on the application. 60 bushel beans remove 10 lbs of S with grain and 10 lbs with stover. Wonder why some threads get so much discussion and others don’t? | |
