I'm only 30, and I have been doing the 401k since I started my job at 22. Company matches up to 8% & gives you 3%.

I don't plan at all having the money around in 2055. Who knows what shape the country will be in by then. The tax rate by then may be 90% when you're old enough to withdraw if they haven't confiscated it by then.

It's cool to watch it grow upwards towards $300k as of now but I don't ever plan or make decisions based on that money being there in 35-40 years. If its there cool, if not, oh well.

I wouldn't even do it if there wasn't a match.

I would save for the land.
