| The rapid expansion of the ethanol industry was largely subsidized into existence with blenders credit and the availability of sub $3/bu corn. Neither exist today. The value of its carrier (gasoline) into the energy world is not helping as much as it has in the past either.
As the industry ages, it will be interesting to see whether plants can remodel/ rebuild as they age out or not given the slim margins that will continue if the price of corn stays high enough to keep margins slim. | |
