It’s a commodities business, profitability governed mainly buy how they buy (corn being the most expensive ingredient, so yes, what they pay makes a big difference) and sell, and how they manage the inherent expenses in between. The very first thing I’d drill into is the management team. Edit too add; every extra three cents per bushel a plant has to push the bid, reduces profitability by more than a penny per gallon produced, generally speaking.
