Current people mover is starting to nickel and dime me. Looking at 2000-2005 or so SUV's. Ford Expedition would be my preference. Diesel Excursion would be my wifes, but those are out of my price range. 3rd row seating is a must. What else is out there that fits the bill and any pros/cons to any of them? I know the 5.4 can be sketchy with spark plug issues and cam phasers.

Chevy suburban. I have two of them. Great vehicles. 2003 was the last year when the fuel filter was still on the frame rail (and not in tank), but I think the 05-06 were the best ones.
Biggest pitfalls were the transfer cases. The pump can wear a hole in the side and start leaking the oil out. Best thing you can do is keep a close eye on it, or just have the transfer case pulled and put a pump kit in it (costs under $50 in parts), and you won't have to worry about it again.
The 5.3s from those years are near bulletproof. |
