It's not just soybeans that are getting hammered by the trade war.

Subject: Opinions are up, facts are down.

Yes, most people don't appreciate that the northern hardwood forests. Even less appreciate what this market page use to be and that was a good place for discussion based on facts not solely opinions.

"It turns out the the price of hard wood timber has collapsed to less than half last year's price and the mills don't even want to bid, just no market". I do not believe there to be any facts to this. As they say, be careful of the company you keep because you will soon be like them. I am sorry I have to tell you your friend is not a good source for information. You provided a chart reflecting what was sold in 2016 and 2017. While it was interesting, thank you, what does it have to do with reflecting anything about the 2018 market or the effects of tariffs? (Psst...the answer is nothing).

In general most timber markets (minus a few species) have been steadily increasing over the decade, maybe it is time for a correction to some species. https://extension.psu.edu/timber-prices-10-year-trends-for-northwest...

Here is the last available quarterly report. Note they said prices actually went up for a while in anticipation of the tariffs. You may have missed the peak. Better tell your friend:

Here is Forecon's timber highlights to November 13, 2018:

Here is one explaining the bid process is actually still getting good prices even in the market downturn. So much for "mills don't even want to bid". Seems the area you talked about stump price is better than market. Just like the 30% you got. Us timber owner's didn't get "beat up" at all.

I do not see any information that would indicate the market is half what is was last year or the fact that demand to put bids on timber has dropped.

This site is a great place to share ideas and opinions, but we are only valued as the information we provide is accurate. You have some knowledge so you could do better than this. Anyone splewing information that is just can't be backed up, is opinionated, or downright false is just a splash in the septic tank and tis the season that the crapper is full. Let's make NAT great again.
