Cherokee County, Northwest Iowa | 65 years old. This was my last harvest. Came up with a retirement plan over 2 years ago, amazingly enough, still on Plan A, which is good. Retiring for personal and medical reasons, not economic reasons. We have no children, so no blood relatives waiting in the wings to take over. I started a business relationship with a young man 4 years ago, he is going to rent our farmland next year. Have a couple of ideas of how to stay semi-employed and as busy as i want to be-keeping those ideas to myself for now. I missed my 40th vet school class reunion last month due to harvest, but reports that 5 out of 87 classmates are deceased has only re-assured me that I am doing the correct thing for me at this time.
