Interesting scenario for you. Western Ia hill ground. Had a 77 acre field that had heavy corn residue, coulters on the planter, but no row cleaners (that will change this winter). Long story short planter depth at 2", seed was planted, but did not come up through the residue. Very poor uneven stand. Hated looking at that field all summer, even sprayed an extra time to get the weeds where the beans didn't fill in the rows. Beans were a 2.6 variety planted May 31st at 133,000. Havn't checked end population, but AgLeader monitor was calibrated and that field averaged 64 bushel per acre when it seems upper 40's to low 50's is the average this year. So are we planting too heavy, need to stress beans to get yield? Fyi, these were planted with a White Agco planter on 30" rows.
