Central Iowa | Hopefully this will help answer your question.
The Trimble/CNH guidance packages typically use a GPS 252. The 252 has WAAS thru RTK capability with the appropriate unlocks. It will need unlocked to RTK, which can be done by your local dealer. The 252 physically has two ports on the rear. Port A for the NAV controller and Port B for the Radio. For Trimble 900mhz RTK you plug in a radio to this port. For cellular RTK with the DOT network you plug in a small blue tooth radio (short range), similar to what is in a PDA or wireless keyboard. This blue tooth can connect with a cell phone and transmit the info that the cell phone is receiving to the 252. As far as the end user is concerned from this point on the Trimble system will behave like it would on Trimble 900mhz RTK. The cell phone can be loaded with In-Time Connection software. This allows the end user simple one button access to the DOT networks; MN, IA and probably more. There are other "raw" programs available to load on smart phones/laptops to connect to the DOT networks, but my understanding is they would need to be operated by experienced personel. | |
