I don't know a thing about you or your situation. But if either one of you has kids + assets, you absolutely need a pre-nup. And I'm not qualifying that statement with any sort of indication on how old the kids are. Adult kids present their own set of challenges if a split happens. 

You do whatever it is that seems right to you, but be careful coming back on here in 5 yrs being sad because you got flushed.
