| I disagree that all L1 only systems will have plenty of drift in 2011. A good receiver on Beacon correction will do far better than WAAS or Onmi-Star VBS. Our first guidance system was a AgGPS 132/21a lightbar Trimble in 1998. In late 1999 we had a lot of "drift" when using Onmi-Star VBS (WAAS was not available then) correction. It was bad enough that I believed the 132 was defective. One time the cross-track error moved 18 ft in about one minute with the floater not moving. After some increasingly heated phone calls (end users could contact Trimble directly then), I got a good explanation from Art Lange of what was causing the problem, and instructions to switch to beacon correction. There was never a noticeable problem after that. This experience is the reason that I will not buy a guidance quality L1 only GPS receiver unless it is capable of beacon correction. | |
