Scottville, 49454 Northwest Michigan | Personally, I still like the 25R40 the best. It typically gives me my highest yield. (I believe the average of all of Pioneer's plots, still shows 25R40 to be their highest yielder.) Probably because I can give it plenty of nitrogen, and it won't go down.
I'm fully aware of it's poor scab resistance score. And I do agree it's worthy of that poor score. But we've been able to overcome the fusarium head scab problem with proper fungicide applications. We use either Caramba or Prosario. And timing is very critical. (I can't emphasize enough how important timing of application is.) So far we've never had an issue with head scab in our wheat.
Another Pioneer variety that hasn't been mentioned yet is.... 25R25. You might want to ask your Pioneer Sales Rep about that variety.
