Subject: RE: Valuable and efficient shop lights?

St. Joseph, Champaign County, IL
I put T5, high output, fluorescents in my shop when I built it 4 years ago. I'm still happy with them, but if building today, I'd look VERY hard at LEDs. More $ up front, but should be less $ to operate and keep working.

The only problem I've seen with LED fixtures is finding one that can be easily mounted right to the corrugated steel ceiling in a farm shop. The LEDs Ive seen and installed are made to be hung off of chain or cable, in part so they have air circulation for heat dissapation. I'm not too worried about circulation though, since they have at least an inch of airspace over the top of most of the fixture. I personally am not a fan of the idea of having to hang lights lower than absolutely necessary, and like to install fixtures that "hug" the ceiling.
