Subject: Irrigation diesel vs electric

BC, Canada
Running some irrigation pumping costs after last year was another killer dry year.

Right now we run a pto pump behind a JD 4230. Costs around $11/hr in diesel. $11 x 24hr = $264 per day.
Those are the only costs I'm going to compare here.

Trying to get electricity numbers has been hard, nobody here seems to know what it costs them to run.

Here are my figures on a 50hp motor, please correct me if I'm wrong.

50hp x 746watts = 37300watts / 92% efficiency =
40543.48watts / 1000 = 40.54kwh x $.0556 per kWh (as per bc hydro irrigation rate website) =
$2.254 per hr x 24 = $54.096 per day

I know this is just to operate the pumps, no overhead or maintenance involved. Sat year I figured close to 600 hours pumping.
