I had two knee replacements, but 4 years apart. Both my brothers had them the same day, or three days apart. Now that takes guts. But the one that had them the same day was driving his truck in two weeks. So, yes it will be hard and he will need assistance at first, but if he is as tough as you say, it won't take him long and he will hopefully be glad he had it done. Good luck to him.
