Subject: RE: Tough day for the old man

Gettysburg, PA

We are most hopeful that dad sticks to the rehab.  He use to be a very fit guy (his nickname as a kid was Charlie Atlas) and we are hopeful he still has that drive.  They had him doing some sort of pre-surgery exercises and mom said he was absolutely religious about doing them.  When we sat with him last nite, the respiratory therapist came in and had him use this machine thing to help him keep his lungs clear.  Had to suck in on this straw and it recorded mL of air.  Well, he did 1500 mL.  After the therapist left he got to looking at the chart they provided with the machine and according to it, he should be at 2450 mL.  Well, after seeing that he said "Give me that damn machine back!  I didn't know what my goal was!"  He sucked in 1950 mL when he tried again.  So, we think he still has the fighting spirit!!
