SE IL and SW IN | The Walmart strategy is ok but be sure you have a confirmed pick-up before you get there. The car rental should have them if nothing else.
If there is a storm there will be a large information sign telling you to stop and put on your chains. There will be a cop in the next mile who does not look kindly on flatlanders who cannot read. The snowplow crew are less nice to stranded flatlanders without chains. I have been snowed in twice in that area and all imaginable safety precautions fall short during some of the storms.
