I haven't tried one with a bang bang valve before so I can't say but if your not seeing any change with adjusting it down, especially going from 500 to 50 I would try decreasing the valve up/down threshold values. The up/down thresholds are technically how much voltage it takes to make the machine move, in your case since it's a bang bang valve you may have to take them down quite a ways..
