Not sure if the "standard of deviation" and other analytics would indicate a true yield difference between your plant populations.  Maybe someone else on here that has study such stuff could chime in. 

But I guess it does show that lower populations can yield equally with higher populations.  At least this year on your farm they showed that.

I should have added --the OP was in TN I am located in SW IN a lot of climate diff Between THERE, HERE and NW Michigan

HERE I think thin pop is fine --not so sure where you are located
