Subject: RE: Cover Crop Before Corn- Location

A low rate of cereal rye (e.g., 30 lbs/a) or rye + oats (e.g. 20 lbs rye + 30 lbs/a oats) planted with your VT tool/air delivery system is probably the best option.

If you really want to try a brassica, a cheap small seeded potentially winter hardy species like rapeseed could add some value but might be hard to kill in the spring.

A small # of legumes have good potential to overwinter planted in mid-October in WC IL but very few if any will have grown much until after May 1.

shoot me an email if you want to talk.
