Best of luck to James! I played trumpet from 6th grade through senior in High School. I mostly enjoyed it. It was good to develop friendships with other classes I might not have otherwise. A few of us 8th graders played with the high school band occasionally. High school band had freshmen through seniors. I did not care for practicing in the mud or cold for football half-time shows. All the younger students and some of the older ones had a terrible time learning the formations and how to march into them. Years after I graduated they hired a band instructor that loved to go all over to marching competitions. I would have dropped band if I would have needed to do that. After my dad died the beginning of my Sophomore year, I was running the farm for the most part, and midway through my Senior year I reached 18 and borrowed money to start farming on my own. I don't regret my "big band" years a bit. May the high notes be James' friend!
