Mount Vernon, WA | Emissions are the primary reason why diesel engines don't get the fuel economy most people think they should. Seems they have to make compromises in certain areas in order to keep maximum allowable pollutants within limits.
They noticed this in 2002 with the big rigs; mileage went down. What's worse, owners of older vehicles were required to get engine computers "recalibrated" whenever an engine came in for a major overhaul. Customers thought they were getting a good deal until they checked their mileage afterwards.
Larry and others here have observed a noticeable drop with the fuel economy of their Magnums. Haven't heard much from Deere owners, but that's likely because they didn't do well to start with. Deere was never known for exceptional fuel economy. | |
