South Georgia | Omar, I went to Deere's 'Showcase of Technology' in January, in Waterloo. They had the CVT transmissions there, all cut-away, and engines, and everything else like you'd expect. One thing I wasn't expecting was that they've got a new variable-speed fan drive on the 8030 series. It's a variable speed belt drive. Don't ask me about maintenance (I asked the guy, and he thought there was a grease fitting to be greased every day, but couldn't find it for me.), but he said that it takes about 10% of your horsepower to cool a motor, with a normal viscous fan drive. This one's supposed to be a great deal more efficient. If it really is, I wonder if that accounts for some of the fuel savings? I've often wondered about a better way to run a fan, but I don't know if a variable speed belt drive is it. (Where those sheaves slide has to have lubrication, and I dern sure don't want to raise the hood and grease the dern things every day.) I've wondered about a hydraulic driven fan.
