We went to a bunch of graduation parties and most of them served pulled pork BBQ. One of them had it sliced like it should be and it was delicious. Are people just too lazy to carve it?

As stated, pulled pork comes from the pork shoulder, while the sliced pork you most likely had came from the loin. Huge difference in how they are cooked, and how they are prepared after being cooked. A whole pork loin takes sub 2 hours on my smoker, while a 8-9# pork butt will run 12-14 hours (depending on cooker temp), and you are looking to have that be as tender as possible for pulling.
