Subject: RE: 4230 jd tractor comments on reliablity

West Central Wisconsin
We have two. Dad bought first one in 1973. It was OH'd in 1983 with 7,200 hours on it. Big/main horse used for everything and used daily. It's got over 20,000 hours on it and looks like hell! I buy JD ether by the case and it uses 90% of it. Bought a 1976 model at auction in 1997-ish that had 1,400 one owner hours on it. It now has 6,800 and is primarily my 6-row, no-till planter and 500 gal. sprayer tractor. It sees some chopper and bailer use and if it's really cold in the winter I'll put it on the manure spreader. This one hasn't been touched. This one starts a lot better than the older but not like our 4020 or 4455.
