I don't see all the abortions being due to it. Leukosis can affect the uterus but to have that happen in 4/5 cases would be rare.

Your cow probably got it from using the same needle for vaccinations. But even then the actual contraction of leukosis is pretty rare and happens in less than 1% of instances.

Leukosis itself is caused by bovine leukemia virus. So leukosis isn't contagious but the virus can be spread and cause leukosis, which as said before actually happens less than 5% of the time. The cow of yours you tested might of had the antibody for the virus, but that doesn't necessarily mean she has leukosis nor will she pass it on to her calf.

Edit: I would go to the guy and want my money back. If he isn't cooperative then I'd cross that bridge when I came to it.
