On the Delmarva
I farm about an hour West of BB. I have just over 60 acres that have been in continuous no-till in corn bean rotation for going on 17 years. These acres average around 165 BPA for corn and 45 for beans. I stick a ripper in the ground in the fall and follow with the finisher in the spring on the same type of soils I kick the yields upto about 190 for corn and almost 70 for beans. Strip till I am getting around 230 on corn. Why? If I am interpreting my data correctly, a major factor is germination. Plus the amount of chemicals used and passes with the sprayer in the no till ground I am really not saving anytime. What works for you doesn't work everywhere.
