Subject: RE: Insulation turn black in attic

central - east central Minnesota -

modal - 4/18/2016 21:41 Our insulation in roof of our house has turned black up in the whole attic. The furnace is not the issue . We have noticed the beams in our ceiling and nail holes in the walls where the studs are also starting to turn black. Could this possibly be mold? Who do we contact for this issue? HELP!

Sounds like Mold . ..  . . very dangerous for health.

As pointed out - likely poor ventilation or bath fans venting into attic space. There should be wind-wash placed on outside rafter points and soffits should have shoots to allow air up between the rafter tops. Each space between rafter should have the shoot. Should have a vent at peak of root every 4-5ft. Or continuous ridge vent product. If there's a bath fan venting into the attic, get the vent pipe insulated and vented out the roof.
The dark insulation needs to be removed and replaced with new - wear a approved contained air approattis when working with mold.
