We did that for years. BSE put us out of business(age limits).
We had to sell to feedlots marketing in Canada, who had a grading system that was kinder to aged animals.

The first 30 days we expected no gain or even a loss (cutting and putting strange bulls together)
45 days they would be looking good and ave 1.5 lbs gain per day
by 60 days they would ave 2lbs/day gain.

One thing I learned with them was to not have a cross fence separating groups-- they would tear it up fighting with the neighbors.
