Subject: RE: Do your dogs guard you at times?

Washington Co Ks
When I was a kid my dad and a neighbor helped each other with farm work so they each knew what the other had and where it was. If one wanted to borrow something and the other wasn't home we would just go get it. We had a dog who would follow the neighbor around but let him take anything. One day he came to borrow something when we were gone and found that the wind had blown the door to the house open. There was rain predicted so he was going to shut the door. Our dog beat him to the house and lay down in front of the door. Every time that the neighbor would set foot on the porch the dog would bristle up and growl. When he would step off the porch the dog just laid there. He said that it took him at least half an hour talking to the dog before he could get to the door and shut it.
