East Central South Dakota | The best solution and the solution that WILL fix it is corporate greed. BNSF makes money hauling stuff and the more stuff they haul the more MONEY they make. This will encourage the capital expenditures needed to haul more stuff and then they will try haul more stuff to get a return on their capital investment. Oil pipelines will come also because they are just more economically efficient in moving oil, not to mention safer then hauling volatile crude on trains.
If you want total collapse of the rail problem get the government involved. All the different agencies that have regulatory and compliance arms are causing problems already. I helped start a shuttle project. We had to mitigate wetlands, do a native artifact search, traffic flow study, endangered species log-------it never ends. I can't imagine the regulatory hoops the railroad are jumping through in the projects by vailcat. |
