| We direct seed into a priors year wheat stubble in spring. Harvest 3 crops in seeding year and stands are kept 3-4 years. Have not used companion crops for years as they hold back the alfalfa too much. The new seeding this year will be cut in about 7-10 days for the first time this year.
If you really want to use a companion crop, use oats at about 1-1.5 bu/acre. Wheat tends to be too competitive as a companion crop. | |
