when the market had as big of swings in 1 year that took 10 years to move the same-you have to imploy different things-buying a put underneath your cattle perty good risk insurance until you get them sold-paying for 900 feeders at $1800 is a lot different then paying $1000 just a year ago
if your bullish you can buy a call-if you contracted the cattle maybe buy a call $10 above your sale price
