No way it would work for 500# calves unless they were dwarfs (with short legs). Our biggest calves were ~375# I'm guessing, but as frame 6 or so cattle several of them scraped under the headgate latch to exit the calf table. Like I said, next year I plan to use it a month earlier. Perfect would be the 200 - 350 lb. range I think. One late calf was under 200 lbs and it worked fine for him--just had to set the headgate narrower.

I believe the literature for this table (and many others) suggests 450 lbs. as max calf weight...and that would really be pushing the limits I think.
